Why do you think people are considering relocating to Guernsey?
Over the years the island has attracted many private individuals and new corporations to its shores. Guernsey offers a range of lifestyle benefits including an excellent work-life balance for families as well as financial benefits given the island’s independent fiscal regime. These benefits coupled with the 50% tax rate which has now been bought in for higher earners across the UK makes the island more attractive to new residents that it has ever previously been.
What do people need to consider before relocating to Guernsey?
Those who are contemplating a move for whatever reason should consider many factors before doing so. Thorough research is important (see our useful contacts section) and ensuring that the island can cater for yours and your family’s needs. It is also imperative to seek Guernsey legal and financial advice, as taxation and other laws here differ from those in the UK and mainland Europe.
My partner is starting a new job at The Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey, he wants me to go with him but I have no job on the island as yet, I have applied to some. Is it possible for me to travel with him and keep looking for employment when I’m there?
Hi Pauline
Apologies for the slow response but I was on annual leave when you posted your question.
In theory you should be able to come over with your partner but you would need the approval of the Housing Department before you came to be sure you are legally able to live and work here.
I suggest you give them a call on 01481 715790 to confirm you are OK to live here. It will be conditional that you live with your partner while you are here.
If you run into any problems contact the Board of Health who shopuld be able to help sort it out for you. Hopefully they are offering him accommodation which is suitable for you both to live in?
I hope that helps.
